The Chicago-based music platform Real Ones is hosting Mic Check Vol. 2, a showcase that blends local and out-of-town talent, at Cole’s on July 7, featuring Freddie Old Soul, Jireh, Malik Elijah, and Poetically Authentic.  


The GARD3N - 688 N Milwaukee Ave, River West

The GARD3N is a recently opened creative healing space made specifically for Black and brown artists, brands, and businesses. The venue acts as an event space and a recording studio and it features a rotating gallery. The spiritual songstress known as Asha Omega recently announced that Rhythm & Purpose: The Second Session, an artist showcase that she has curated, will be hosted at The GARD3N on July 13. Keep an eye out for more events they’ll be hosting in the coming months.


Silver Room Open Mic – 1506 E 53rd St, Hyde Park

Open mics have held an essential role in giving Chicago poets, rappers, and singers a platform for the last 15 years, at least. Attending one is one of the best ways to find up-and-coming talent in the city. The Silver Room, located on the South Side in Hyde Park, hosts a monthly open mic that typically has a crowd that sprawls out the boutique’s front door. Bourbon on Division – 2050 W Division St, Wicker Park

Bourbon on Division is a bar in Wicker Park that hosts a number of live music events throughout the week. DOME Productions, which is operated by musicians/singers No Montana Hannah and Morgan Gold, hosts Girl’s Night, a series of shows at Bourbon that are meant to highlight women in the local creative industry.
