Brittney Carter - ”As I Am” (Album)
Brittney Carter Drops off her debut project titled ”As I Am”
Brittney has been crafting authentic raw singles, viral freestyle videos, and writing poetry for quite some time now. It’s honestly nice to see we finally get to hear her debut project (that was well worth the wait) is one of the best projects out of Chicago this year and personally one of my favorites!
With being an avid Brittney Carter listener, I honestly was excited and very intrigued to see how her first body of work would sound. If you haven’t heard Brittney rap before, she has a very calculated flow along with a captivating voice that reminds you of some of the best lyricists to ever do it! With Brittney being such a great lyricist/poet, I was really interested in how a whole project would sound cause I know some rappers that are fantastic lyricists fall short to make an interesting cohesive album. I am happy to say this is not the case with Brittney because this project has a ton of great subject matter, production choices, and overall a whole meaning that explains Brittney so well.
In breaking down “As I Am” from the beginning skit from Chicago radio legend Hot Rod, down to the last track on the project “Can’t go”, this project excels in so many areas with it being one to remember for a long time. Every song feels like a breath of fresh air inviting the listener with lyrical excellence along with showing the deeper side of Brittney. I honestly can’t decide the most powerful track on the project because every song is so well put together and serves a different purpose, which makes this tracklist so appetizing.
After interviewing Brittney and listening to her new project, it really made something stand out even more in my mind. One of the questions we asked her in our In Ya Face interview is “what style if you had to say your music is”? And she simply answered, “it’s me”. That answer really capsulized this whole project to me and really made me enjoy and fully understand the true meaning of “ As I Am” and the well put together tracklist. So be sure to stream “As I Am” here and also watch our new In Ya Face interview with Brittney Carter.
