Like many artists, quarantine had all but stalled queen mars’ artistry. With public shows out of the question, she needed to get creative with how she was able to connect with her fans. So one night, bored and armed with her iPhone and makeshift lighting setup, she decided to make a video.
Out of this random burst of creativity came the quarantine-styled “b!tch” music video. Serving feminine, home-video vibes, this video is laced with a “bad b!tch” aesthetic and “no fucks given” attitude. queen mars have proven that you don’t need $$$ to create valuable art, you need confidence.
Leading up to the release, queen mars called out the double standard in the censoring of women’s bodies. With her video being rejected for promotion on Facebook and Instagram, she released a video exposing the sexist guidelines (mainly aimed at women) these platforms have in deeming what is considered too sexual quoting that Facebook believes “Excessive visible skin or cleavage, even if not explicitly sexual in nature” is considered non-compliant with their guidelines.
“So basically my tits offend you. Cool.” -queen mars
