Dayana – VEVE (EP)

VEVE: exploring Dayana’s musical JOURNEY through her Debut ep

Spanish music has been making a huge impact on streaming industry over the recent years and it’s only getting bigger. In our latest entry, we have an amazing Spanish singer, Dayana (Die-ana). The 20-year-old artist was born in Venezuela and moved to Chicago about 2 years ago. Growing up Dayana was always around music, her parents played at church every Sunday, her older brother is a pianist and her main producer. Having that background and playing in an orchestra since the age of seven has helped Dayana find the sound she has today. With Dayana being a Spanish singer, there’s going to be demographic that doesn’t understand her, so to describe her music, I would say that it’s more along the lines of emotional talk of past relationships and finding love that we hear in R&B music while the production gives us more of a dance/party upbeat tempo.

Going into the EP, Dayana released VEVE on December 25th, 2023. The EP has seven songs and has a runtime of about 12 minutes. Of those seven songs, we get some filler and four actual songs. To start it off we get PARALELEPIPEDO - (INTRO), here we get a recorded call of Dayana calling her younger sister telling her that they need to talk, and that Dayana will pick her up after she’s done with at the studio. The 2nd song PASAMOS TANTO, which translate to “having spent a lot of.” In this case Dayana is talking about having spent a lot of her time on a previous relationship. Next, we have HUMEDO, which translates to “wet” or “humid.” In this song Dayana is singing about someone who caught her attention and she’s leaving them her number, hoping that they’ll give Dayana a chance. The 4th song is the interlude and is titled IT’S TRICKY. We hear Dayana just getting to the studio and we hear others trying to figure out the perfect keynote for a song which Dayana jokingly says, “It’s as tricky as my love situation.” The 5th song LA PARED Y TU translates to “you and the wall.” In this song, Dayana starts the song singing about how she enjoys sleeping closer to the wall till her significant other enters the picture, now putting someone else between Dayana and the wall. In the 6th song, 10, which I would consider Dayana’s break up song. Throughout the song we hear her singing about the decisions and time spent on her previous relationship but ultimately making her the strong person she is today. Then finally in the 7th song, the outro, we hear a recording of Dayana’s brother and how proud he is of her and how excited he is to see her start her next chapter in life.

Chicago is a melting pot of so many different cultures and Dayana is just more proof of that. With only about a year and half of releasing music, Dayana has accomplished a lot so we can’t wait to see how 2024 treats her.
