The Silencer - Kyra Horton

Kyra Horton makes her TGF debut with her poetry album “The Silencer”

The Silencer, is a melodic collaboration of poetry and rhythm in a way rarely created before.

Kyra Horton from Chicago (currently based in LA) has been writing poetry since 2016, starting with Louder Than A Bomb competitions and open mics in the city. As she starting performing at spoken words and poetry nights ,, she was able to express her identity and resonate with other artists in the scene.

According to Kyra, “The Silencer” represents the repression of Black voices, specifically Black women, and the overcoming of this silencing through art, activism, and resistance. The words ring with power and vulnerability while the background melodies remain soft and comforting.

The Silencer starts with the heart-felt track Morning Prayer, introducing Kyra's deeply spiritual background and its intersections with her activism. This track lays the foundation for the album, speaking of gratitude and the desire for the continuous evolution of herself. The album ends with Silence When I Speak, where Kyra pushes the boundaries of poetry and flirts with the relationship between it and hip-hop. It flexes her flow and rhythmic ability outside of her typical style.

Kyra excels at using her voice as the mode of transportation for her message. With this project you can tell that she is able to captivate an audience with her speaking and make them feel deep emotion.

“The Silencer” boldly proclaims themes of pain juxtaposed with beauty, suffering with power, struggle with resilience, and the ability to turn the darkness the world can offer into a foundation to build from.

Be sure to take a listen to “The Silencer” and follow Kyra Horton for updates!
