While there is a slew of artists that have claimed to make “soulful trap" music in the music industry throughout the years, there’s always room for more. Whether you’re thinking of names like Lucki, Joey Purp, or even newer artists like nombreKari, there is a long history of amazing artists out of Chicago who takes the world by storm together and truly dominates the musical landscape. Most recently, one of the most compelling up-and-coming artists to occupy that lane has to be recently discovered K.Y

Most recently, K.Y geared up once again for a brand-new song called “GHOST”, and it’s just another hit in the arsenal of bangers. Utilizing a very smooth, revealing piano melody with some much more up-front percussion and pungent drums that provide a fairly simple yet touching instrumental that K.Y just glides on. Throughout the lyrics, K.Y’s bars come through as if her vocals are another layer of instruments within the beat, with a very mellow flow it’s as if she is mumbling and it just makes the track seem more “laid back” and “chill”. In this track K.Y taps into her life, rapping about letting people go and going “Ghost” as the title portrays. As she moves on throughout the track and rotates through various cadences, she seems to switch it up but continuously uses flows that are appealing and catchy, making sure that they stand out in your mind even after the 2-and-a-half-minute long song comes to a close.

All in all, I have been thoroughly impressed with K.Y since I first heard discovered her impressive discography. K.Y has something special, and with the consistency in releases, I’m sure this will be a summer that we won’t forget. I could go on and on about the music for days but just get in tune with one of the hottest up and coming artists in the underground by checking out the most recent release called “GHOST”.
