Piers James – CHUMP

Piers James – CHUMP

Directed by Frmwrkldn

Following on from Piers’ Summer smash ‘PON DEM’ at the end of July ( Pon Dem) UK producer & songwriter Piers James keeps the pace up with a very chilling new cut ‘CHUMP’.

The Ipswich-born artist continues to show his versatility, not only in his ability to seamlessly switch between singing catchy summer hits and rapping hypnotic chilling anthems, Chump sums ups another example as to why Piers James has increasingly become a problem within the UK scene, thriving in essence of his outsider status & drawing from influences of old school Grime roots, Piers is championing the torch for early-2000s experimentalist sounds and lyricism that made the UK scene so captivating.

The video (directed by Frmwrkldn) coincides with the dark, energetic feel of the song, emphasising on the raw aesthetics of the track co-produced with local producer Kayzee. Piers’ flow, accompanied by a hard hitting bass-line, sizzling hi-hits, woozy synths and witty word play with lyrics such as “I never had a silver spoon, but the lord gave me sonic boom!” it is clear Piers is channelling his small town anguish with powerful effect with ‘CHUMP’.

CHUMP is also a segment of a 6-part documentary entitled Who Is Piers James” which includes exclusive live sessions and a ton of behind-the scenes content in partnership with Vero.
