Dirtbag (EP) - Earnest Wright
Don't sleep, check out "Dirtbag" the new project from Earnest Wright
Rising up from the notorious city of Chicago, Earnest Wright crashes into the LA rap scene as an irresistible, disruptive force from the margins.
Earnest Wright has been building momentum as one of the most intriguing and naturally talented artists coming through in the underground scene right now.
Now Earnest Wright releases one of the most explosive and compelling projects of the year in “DIRTBAG!” - a raw, anecdotal offering that sits over an atmospheric, ethereal instrumental, a frank snapshot of Los Angeles lifestyle Earnest Wright’s exploration of his journey to where he is now. A fitting gem that looks to take the precocious star into mainstream consciousness.
Since emerging onto the scene with his latest single ‘Swish’ Earnest Wright established himself as a key figure in the growing LA music scene’s musical identity. His distinctive looks and style only add to the sense of a thrilling new artist already building a serious cult following outside Chicago.
Whilst Earnest Wright narratives and unquestionable ease on the mic belie his uncompromising lived experiences, Earnest Wright’s influences from a young age have always been beyond his estate block window - an early appreciation of Danny Brown, to the genre-blending JPEGMAFIA, with a Chicago flair and LA influence, gives Earnest Wright a refreshingly open musical palette and a thrilling innovation to his music – and it all points to the rise of a genuinely exciting new voice for 2021.
The standout track on the tape has to be “Track 3 - Aint Bands”, this song presents a uproar with Wright describing in detail what Dirtbag means to him. "when it comes to making music I can never relax" .... "If it aint bands hoe then i dont care about it!". He raps about focusing on the grind and flying past all those who doubt him.
Track 5 - GuapTop is another favorite on the EP, closing the project off as the outro. This is a song that lets the audience into the life of Earnest Wright, he hits his stride on this high tempo instrumental, making his cadence that seems effortless.
I am excited to watch Earnest Wright continue to develop as an artist and build his fanbase across LA and beyond and even though it is still relatively early on for them I am very confident that he is going to be able to have a lot of longevity in his music career.
