Honey Chanté – Put It Onna Floor Freestyle
Can Honey Chanté Make the Tik Tok to Artist Transition?
Introducing Honey Chanté, a female artist from Chicago as she puts her spin on the popular single, Put It On Da Floor by Latto. Honey Chanté released the freestyle on July 28th on her YouTube page. While many are not going to be familiar with Chanté given that she’s had about a 2–3-year hiatus, she does have a big following on her Tik Tok. Going by the username “Yungchicago773” on Tik Tok, Chanté has over 140,000 followers and 13 million likes on her account.
In her first song in a couple of years, Chanté brings some great energy to this track as she raps about a previous breakup and about her current lifestyle. As the song begins you hear Chanté say “I’m in the studio making a diss track about you” and then she begins to rap “Take me off the shelves, b**** it’s hot I’m back outside, and I’m single so if that’s your n**** you better run and hide.” What ends up making the song more of a turn-up track are the later lyrics such as “All my old h**** swear I’m acting brand new, they just mad cause they can't touch me, hell naw we can’t be cool.''
The video was directed and edited by icyybands, and he is able to capture the energy Chanté and her friends bring as it is very reminiscent of Glorilla’s video FNF. Throughout the video, we have shots of Chanté with her friends in the studio, a laundry mat, and the girls driving around in the parking lot of the laundromat.
Honey Chanté has some potential to make a name for herself as we now see the energy that she can bring. It’s going to be interesting to see what she can do with this newly found momentum.
