Jay $teez – Flex Now, Heal Later (Album)

Chicago Native Showcases His Lyrical Ability on His Latest Album

The latest artist to appear on The Ghetto Flower is Chicago native, Jay $teez. Jay brings us his album Flex Now, Heal Later that was released May 5th, 2023. For those who aren’t familiar with Jay, he is highly influenced by Nas and Kendrick Lamar, and you can hear in the music. If you had to put him in a group, then you can say based off of what was heard from this album, you can say Jay fits perfectly as someone under the Griselda umbrella. Another comparison for Jay would be someone similar to G Herbo. With that being said, it’s not often that we find someone from Chicago that matches this sound which makes Jay that much more unique.

Getting into the album, Jay delivers us 11 songs as we have a runtime of about 30 minutes. Of those 11 songs, only 10 were new songs to the listener since Jay released the song Clout Chaser as the single to the album and he released a music video to go along with it. Throughout the album we get production that sounds like it was by Thelonious Martin or Alchemist which just boosts Jay’s storytelling even more. Throughout the song Irresponsible Freestyle, Jay has the listener thinking you’re going to be hearing some Funk Flex bombs on the beat based off of how hard he was going in. Then on the song 36 (Dope) Jay uses a beat that samples the song I Love You by East of Underground which became popular after 21 Savage sampled the same song for his hit single A Lot.

There weren’t many expectations coming into the album since it was the first introduction to Jay $teez, but after listening to the album, Jay definitely has a great chance to make a name for himself.
