Kaicrewsade – Chickenscratch (Single & music video)

Analyzing Kaicrewsade’s latest musical chapter

Being one of the first sites to ever cover Kaicrewsade and recently having him come over for an interview which was released back in November 2023, Kai doesn’t need much of an introduction. For those unknown to Kai, he doesn’t have that large of a discography, with only one project and a couple singles prior to this new release. Now, the neo-soul artist continues his musical journey as he released two new songs on January 5th, 2023. The two songs are called “Chickenscratch!” and “Untitled!” with both getting their own music video as well.

Diving into the single, this is Kai’s first single that was mixed and mastered in an actual studio, which many would never have guessed given the quality of his music from two years ago is still on par with this single. While Kai does have his own sound, the single is a little reminiscent of artists like Smino, and Noname which have influenced Kai’s musical artistry. The single isn’t that long with the video being about three minutes. As for the music video, it was directed by Axlfiles and we are shown film of Kai at a park's baseball field, a 7-11, and some shots of him driving.

What seems to have been Kai’s biggest issue within the music has been the inconsistency of releasing music. Prior to this new release, Kai’s last song was released July 16th, 2023, and before that November 26th, 2022. That’s a six and eight month difference between each release. While of course everyone has their own issues and roadblocks as they try to make music their full on career, consistency will be the key to Kai’s success because the quality and talent is definitely there.
