Ine’a J – The Colors (EP)

Ine’a J Delivers a Project of The Year Contender

For everyone who knows, Ine’a J is no stranger to The Ghetto Flower, having been covered on the site and having an interview on the podcast which was released back in March. For those new to Ine’a her name is pronounced (Eye-Knee-Uh) and she’s an R&B/Soul artist from Chicago, IL. In the time since being on the podcast, Ine’a has released a few singles, music videos, and had a few performances. With this new release Ine’a gives us a new EP that was released October 21st, 2023, as a gift for the fans for her recent birthday which happens to be October 14th. The EP is titled The Colors, and we get six new songs with a runtime of about 15 minutes.

Track Highlights:

  1. smoke (Purple) – This song has this upbeat tempo that has some resemblance to something that Timberland could have produced. Ine’a went with purple as the song represents detachment, bravery, and confidence.

  2. lover (Pink) – This song showcases Ine’a’s amazing vocals as she sings about a potential lover and wanting more with that person. Ine’a went with pink for this song as it represents embodying love and compassion for deepening a relationship.

  3. letter 2 u (Blue) – This is where the production of the EP starts to get a little darker and more in line with something you might hear from 2015 Drake, The Weeknd, Jazmine Sullivan, or Alessia Cara. Ine’a went with blue due to her reflecting on an unfortunate past relationship.

  4. her (Orange) – In this song we get Ine’a singing about a past relationship where there was plenty of dishonesty and unfaithfulness with her ex. Ine’a choose orange as it represents change and something that needed to happen with such a terrible relationship.

  5. instead FT. MarfLo – With the lone feature on the EP we get Chicago artist and producer MarfLo on this song as they sound like a mixture of Partynextdoor and Ty Dolla $ign. The production is amazing on this song with a hypnotizing Bm and G piano chord progression.

  6. warning (Red) – The final song, Ine’a sings about this being her last time before leaving her ex hence the title Warning. Ine’a decided on red for this song as it shows the passion and the vocal range she was able to achieve for the song.

With that being said, Ine’a definitely delivers with this project of the year contender. This was only the EP so we can only imagine how the album is going to sound.
