King Melik – Out On My Own

King Melik Sets the tone for his year with his latest single “Out On MY own”

For those who’ve been following the site or have kept tabs to the Chicago rap scene for a few years now, King Melik shouldn’t be a new face. For everyone who is unknown to the 22-year-old artist, he was born and raised in Chicago and has been making music under this name since about 2017. His previous release last came as a single in May 2023. While he didn’t release much music last year in 2023, Melik was very busy with performances at Lollapalooza, the Taste of Chicago, Schubas, and many others.

King Melik starts off 2024 with a single called Out On My Own which was released January 15, 2024 and is only two minutes and 30 seconds long. In the song we get King Melik using autotune to the point where he sounds a little similar to Tory Lanez. Whether it be more due to the production or the autotune, Melik is able to still make it his own sound. In the hook of the song we hear Melik talk about wanting to boast more this year which he definitely should after having such a great 2023. We also get some references about the tv show “The Office”, Patrick Mahomes, and Kyrie Irving throughout the song.

After recently seeing King Melik live early January 2024, I knew Melik had what it takes to make it far. Let’s just hope that Melik can keep up the hard work this year and doesn’t get lost boasting previous accomplishments like many before him.
